I appreciated the flexibility of the Everything Australia staff as they helped update our booking a couple times until we booked and had paid for what we wanted. Unfortunately, when we got on the Reef Experience boat to head out to the dive boat, we were THEN told that we owed $90 more. They could not tell us what it was for, but we were already on the water, at that point. (Suspicious!?!). Then, when it came time for the 'Night Dive' which I thought I'd read was included in the original price, we were told that it would cost $80 more per person. If we wanted ANYTHING to drink besides coffee, tea or water, that was and extra charge. If we wanted a guide for our dive after we'd finished the certification part of the course, well ... that would be $15 extra per person. One souvenir photo: $50. Ouch!! And so on, and so on. It was a little off-putting to be nickelled and dimed so much after paying over $1,000 EACH for the trip that we'd booked. We DID enjoy ourselves and had lots of good experiences - food, accommodation, staff - but the money stuff left a bit of a sour taste in our mouth, if you know what I mean. I'm not sure if it's "Everything Australia" or "Reef Encounter" that are responsible for all the mis-communication, but I wanted to make you aware of how it affects the customer's experience, in the end.

See my original review, as I might have submitted it in the wrong box?

Website and chat feature was easy to use, configurations for the boat sleeping arrangements were definitely misleading.

The boat is old and kind of crummy. It is also very cramped with 15 people and 6 crew. Some of the crew were wonderful (Jenni, Jason, Angela, Matt) and some of the crew really seemed downright bothered by our presence (Claire, Drew). Like it was a chore or they'd rather be texting. Once you get to the reef it's amazing, it's the getting there and the boat that are the struggle.

Captan could be a bit more welcoming. Food could be better. Dive instructors could be more professional.

Hi Rum Runner
I am looking at booking 4 people for the overnight sail with 6 snorkel spots.
Are any of them outer reef spots. Can you send a map to show the planned diving spots please. We are planning our trip for any time in the last 2 weeks of January
We are thinking of visiting in July next summer. I know that is considered Winter for Australia. Will that affect the possibility of diving or taking this trip at that time?

Hi Marta. If you book the Rum Runner overnight boat from Cairns then the certified Padi diver can scuba dive and the rest of you who are not certified divers can book in as Snorkellers. You will get one free intro dive and if you enjoy it then you can purchase up to 3 more intro dives on board the boat ($35 each or 3 for $90). The boat departs from the main marina in Cairns.
Hi!!

which reefs are you going to dive on on this trip? how much do i have to book in advance if i want to go either on the trip next saturday or the following tuesday?

Hi Saskia, generall on the overnight Rum Runner trip the boat goes out to the Thetford Reef however this can depend on the weather. Booking as many days in advance as you can is recommended to secure your spot as the boat does book out.
I am planning a visit early October. How often do you cancel due to weather ?
Hi Helen, it is very rare that the reef boats have to be cancelled due to weather. If you are coming start of October you shouldn't have any trouble going out on Rum Runner. It is highly unlikely that it will be cancelled.
