The boat ride over to Fitzroy Island and knowledgeable staff on the glass bottom boat was really good. They definitely need to make the glass bottom boat tour longer as only one half hour is not near long enough to see coral and marine life. We had people in our group who can’t snorkel and were looking so forward to the glass bottom boat experience of the Great Barrier Reef so were sadly disappointed that most of the day they were only able to sit on shore.

Need more time allocated for glass bottom boat experience

really enjoyed the trip and glass bottom boat. Would have liked more activities for us none swimmers on the island but I guess it's hard to cater for everyone. Commentary on glass bottom boat hard to understand as not a native Australian speaker but the scenery was beautiful.

    Everything Travel Group Review

A day of sun soaked fun, aquatic adventures and really relaxing on a secluded white sand beach sound like your idea of a tropical get away? Then Fitzroy Island is a MUST DO!!

A quick cruise from Cairns Marina, we arrived on Fitzroy, wandering down the Jetty taking in the sights and sounds that make this tropical destination a favourite with locals and travellers.

The Sea kayak tour began shortly after arriving - we were fitted with life jackets, grabbed a paddle and launched off the white coral beach into the silky turquoise ocean. Paddling around to Little Fitzroy Island we saw sea turtles, laughed with our guide and snorkelled in our own exclusive bay with families of colourful fish and coral.

Our return to the beach at noon ended our sea kayaking expedition and was the perfect time to wander through the national park. 20 minutes later we were feasting on our picnic lunch on the secluded white sand that is called Nudey Beach. A swim in the pristine aqua waters and a cheeky sun-bake and it was time to check in at Foxy's bar back on the main beach for a chilled beverage under a sun umbrella.

An afternoon of jumping on the huge ocean trampoline had us all feeling nostalgic - like kids playing in the pool in summer school holidays!! Before we knew it- it was time to head back to main land Cairns.

Living in Cairns we are spoilt for things to do- and in my opinion this one of the most spectacular, picturesque spots in Tropical North Queensland, and at the top of my list of the best way to spend a day in our slice of heaven here in Tropical North Queensland.

Latest Questions about Fitzroy Island - Full Day - Fitzroy Island Adventures

We are planning a visit in mid-March, and have a question about stinger suits/nets. For the snorkeling is it in a protected - netted - area?

If not, what is the additional fee for a stinger suit?

    Thanks, Don

    Comments

While Fitzroy Island is not known for stingers, they can occasionally be present in Far Northern waters from November-May. The snorkelling area at Welcome Bay and Nudey Beach is very sheltered, with coral just metres from the shore. However, these areas are not netted, so guests are welcome to hire lycra suits for an additional $10 AUD per adult & $5 AUD per child.

Hi, I'd like to stay at the fitzroy island resort overnight, is there anywhere I can securely park my car in Cairns city? Thank you

    Comments

The Reef Fleet Terminal/Cairns Marlin Wharf is located at 1 Spence Street, Cairns 4870, which is just next to the Shangri-La Hotel at the Pier Marketplace. If you are staying overnight at the Resort and have a vehicle that requires overnight secure parking, we would recommend either parking undercover at the Pier or at the nearby Casino or Hilton, ranging from $20 per overnight park.

Hi, I'm interested in booking the Fitzroy Island - Raging Thunder with the lunch included. Do you cater to vegans?

Hi, If the 9 h gets a bit much for our kids (6&4), can we get an earlier ride back to Cairns? Thanks.

    Comments

Heya, That is the only departure time unfortunately. If the Fitzroy island trip is a little too long we do have a half day trip for green island.

Hi, Just wondering if a stroller would work. we have a just turned 4 year old. Thanks.

    Comments

Heya, A stroller will be fine on the cruise, you may not be able to reach all the areas on the island with a stroller such as if you climb to the peak etc. but most of it will be fine.

is there free parking for self drive people wanting to take your cruise? or reasonably priced parking for all day parking?

    Comments

Hi Scott, parking is available at the nearby Shangri-la hotel, located opposite the Reef Fleet Terminal where you check in for the Fitzroy Island cruise. The hourly cost of parking there is from AUD 0.80 cents.

Hello, what you have to carry everything for a day trip to Fitzroy Island. Included schnorckeln and glass boat tour? Thans for the answer.

    Comments

Hello Regula. I'm not exactly sure what you are asking but I think you are asking what you need to bring with you on the Fitzroy island day trip from Cairns? You just need to bring yourself and a small day bag with swimwear and a towel. Everything else, including lunch, snorkelling equipment etc is included in the price.

how much would it cost for the cruise, kayak, snorkeling, access to national park walking tracks and lunch cost?

    Comments

Hi Mylene, If you select the kayaking option for $124 this includes the cruise, kayaking, snorkelling at little Fitzroy Island which is where you kayak too and lunch. The national park walking tracks are also included in this and you can walk on any of these in your free time on the island.

    What is the picnic lunch?

    Comments

Hi Dianne, the picnic lunch includes, ham/cheese roll, chicken & salad wrap, piece of seasonal fruit, energy fruit bar, drink, bottle of water. If you have any special dietary requirements please note them in the "additional information" field when making your booking so we can accommodate for these.

We'll be staying in Port Douglas. Is it possiple to get a shuttle return so we can experience this day trip

    Comments

Hi Jacqueline. There are no transfers available from Port Douglas to Cairns for the Fitzroy Island day trip unfortunately. You can drive yourself from Port Douglas to the Cairns marina which will take about an hour, alternatively if you want to experience an island day trip from Port Douglas then you should consider the Low Isles day trip with Sailaway.
