   Yes there are plenty of banks and cash machines in Cairns.  The cash machines are open 24 hours. Be sure to check with your bank before travelling to Australia to ensure your cards will be accepted. In general, any cards with Visa, MC, Maestro, Cirrus or Plus on them will be accepted at ATMs. Most banks are open 9am - 4pm,  they can change foreign currency and travellers cheques at competitive rates.  All shops accept major credit cards but you can't use your overseas eftpos card so you will need to get cash out from an ATM.
