5 Day PADI Open Water Certification
Two classroom days then two nights & 3 days living on board Ocean Quest.
The 5 Day Liveaboard option is by far the most popular learn to dive option. Not only are you certified as a PADI Open Water Diver, but you also get FIVE additional 'Fun Dives', including a guided night dive at no extra charge.
Deep Sea Divers Den's friendly, personalised service, combined with the warm tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef, are the perfect combination for one of the very best PADI 5 Day Open Water courses available.
If you are short on time and only have 4 days available then book the 4 day option which still gives you the same Open Water Certification but you only get 2 days & 1 night on the reef (5 dives in total).
4 Day Budget Open Water Dive Course
Alternatively you can opt for the Budget 4 Day Course which doesn't include overnight stays out at the reef. You spend the first 2 days in the classroom and pool and days 3 & 4 on board Reef Quest day boat, returning back to town from the reef each day. No accommodation included.
LEARN TO DIVE 5 DAY ITINERARY
Day 1
- 9.00am pick-up from your city accommodation
- Classroom theory
- Dive medical to AS 4005.1 (if required)
- Lunch (not included)
- Dive equipment selection Pool training
- 5.00pm return. (approximately)
Day 2
- 9.00am pickup from your city accommodation
- Pool training
- Lunch (not included)
- Classroom theory
- 5.00pm return. (Approximately)
* Please note on days one and two - meals, accommodation and Medical are not inclusive. You will also at some point in the first 2 days be required to swim 200m and tread water for 10 minutes.
Day 3
- 7.45am pickup from your city accommodation
- Transfer out to the reef aboard ReefQuest and do your first 2 training dives
- Lunch (included)
- At 14:30 transfer to OceanQuest where you will spend the night
- Lunch, dinner and accommodation included
Day 4
- Breakfast, 2 more training dives
- Lunch (included)
- Certification as Open Water diver
- Afternoon pleasure dive
- Guided night dive
- Breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation included
Day 5
- Breakfast, 3 more pleasure dives
- Last dive completed by 2.00pm
- Breakfast and lunch included
- 5.00pm return to your accommodation

Other Information
- Please read the important dive information before booking your dive course
- You can cancel your Learn to Dive course for any reason at any time up to the end of Day 1 of the course and receive a full refund of all money paid to Deep Sea Divers Den. There is no refund for any reason after this time
- An additional fee of $20 per person per day at sea is payable direct to Ocean Quest. This fee consists of a Government Environmental Charge (EMC) as well as a Port Departure Tax, fuel levy and administration charges
- Dive Medical $60 - payable direct to the doctor on Day 1 of the dive course
- Digital Underwater Camera's are available for hire at sea
- The minimum age to participate in this course is 12 yrs. Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by a parent or adult over the age of 18. There is no maximum age
- It is a course requirement that you be able to swim 200 metres and tread water/float for 10 minutes
- Please leave at least 24 hours after your last dive before flying
- If you dont want to stay out at the reef at night then you can opt for the 4 Day Budget Course
- Japanese Open Water course starts on a Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday. Korean Open Water course starts on Friday
