About

Description

Cairns is fortunate enough to have the Barron Gorge National park located only 20 minutes from the city centre. Rising from the rainforests of Mount Hypipamee National Park, the Barron River winds 60km across the Atherton Tableland through one of Australia’s highest rainforest belts, before entering the deeply-incised Barron Gorge, which forms a rugged, twisting trough between the Macalister and Lamb Ranges.

The water flowing over the 260m high Barron Falls powers the Barron Gorge Hydro Power Station, providing guaranteed water levels all year round. This picturesque gorge is perfect for first time rafters, or those looking for a thrill ride close to Cairns. Starting from below the power station we raft past giant boulders which dwalf the size of the rafts, down to the calm waters of Lake Placid.

The rapids on the Barron River are of grade 2-3 which means they are simple technical rapids with a need to manoeuvre the raft, which results in great rafting for first timers. Experience is NOT necessary; in fact most of our clients have never been rafting before.

Each raft holds a maximum of seven passengers and one river guide, who will guide you safely down your river adventure. Infact every one of our guides in expertly trained by internationally renowned safety company Rescue 3.

When you arrive at the river you will be fitted with a helmet and life jacket, allowing you to float along the river should you happen to fall out. Its so safe that you don't even have to be able to swim to enjoy rafting. Plus all of our rafts stay together, traversing the rapids in a carefully planned sequence with guides providing cover from the river banks.
