Wait–a–While Rainforest Tours offers small group wildlife and birding experiences within the Wet Tropics World Heritage area of Tropical North Queensland. Our day/night wildlife tours visit restricted access mountain rainforest at night, giving the best chance of seeing nocturnal animals in their natural environment.

If you would like to visit lush tropical rainforest and other habitats with an enthusiastic, knowledgeable guide who will show you the fascinating wildlife, we will have a tour to suit you.

Tour 1 - Rainforest Wildlife Tour
The best tour for seeing native wildlife in its natural environment during the day and into the night.

Visit the scenic Atherton Tablelands, an area that features a range of habitats including lush tropical rainforest and volcanic crater lakes. By day we may see the Musky Rat Kangaroo, Boyd's Forest Dragon, and a selection of rainforest birds. At dusk we venture to the river to search for Platypus, one of the most unique mammals on earth.

After dinner at a country restaurant, the night of spotting begins. As we walk along mountain tracks, we may be lucky enough to spot Lumholtz's Tree Kangaroo, Lemuroid, Green and Herbert River Ringtail Possums, gliders, frogs, owls and more. Every night is full of discoveries. Later over supper, we reflect on what we have seen, and return home with an increased appreciation of rainforest life.

Tour 2 - Daintree Wilderness Tour
If you like the thought of spending time in a remote wilderness area, this is the best option.

This 4WD tour will take you deep into the world heritage listed rainforest of Mount Lewis, a restricted access mountain rainforest area famous for its rare and beautiful plants.

During the afternoon, we explore this ancient rainforest and search for wildlife, such as the Golden Bowerbird and the Musky Rat Kangaroo. After a picnic dinner in the rainforest, we begin our night spotlighting walk. We search for unique primitive fauna, such as the Daintree Ringtail Possum.

As we drive back through the forest at night, we hope to see a selection of nocturnal wildlife, including owls, bandicoots, frogs and pythons.
